Course overview

It is important to build a workplace culture where everyone is treated fairly and with respect, as this helps to create a productive, high performing and healthy work environment for everyone.


This Appropriate Workplace Behaviour course, which is part of the SBS Inclusion Program, explains the types of behaviours that are not conducive to a respectful and inclusive workplace, and details the impacts of these behaviours. The course explains what you can do if you witness or experience behaviours that are inappropriate.


The course should take approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete in total, and it is split into four modules, including:

  1. Discrimination, Harassment, & Bullying (20 mins)
  2. Impacts and Actions (20 mins)
  3. Respect@Work (20 mins)
  4. Psychosocial Hazards and Trauma (20 mins)

 

Learning objectives

Upon completion of the Appropriate Workplace Behaviour course, you should be able to:

  • Describe why appropriate workplace behaviour is important and the benefits benefits of a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Identify behaviour that may be discrimination, harassment, bullying, vilification, or victimisation
  • Explain the concepts of ‘reasonable management action’ and ‘special measures’
  • Explain why it is important for observers of inappropriate behaviour to speak out
  • Explain the differences between sexual harassment and sex-based harassment
  • Explain what psychosocial hazards are and identify potential signs that someone may be experiencing the effects of workplace psychosocial hazards
  • Explain how trauma can exist in the workplace and outline the differences between stress and trauma
  • Identify three things people can do to improve their mental health and their general resilience.
