Course/Activity Information

Course overview

The Gender Equity course, which is part of the SBS Inclusion Program, is designed to improve your understanding of gender equality in the workplace. Drawing on the research and experience of organisations within the Champions of Change Coalition and the University of Queensland, the course provides tools and information to encourage the conditions and cultures that will enable women to thrive in the workplace.

 

The course should take approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to complete and consists of three modules, including:

  1. Why Gender Inclusion? (25 mins)
  2. Sexual Harassment and Domestic Violence (30 mins)
  3. Women and the Workplace (25 mins)

 

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe what is meant by gender equality and 'everyday sexism.'
  • Identify some of the opportunities for broader society if true gender equality is to exist.
  • Explain the difference between sexual harassment and sex-based harassment.
  • List the seven domains (identified in the Respect@Work report) where organisations need to take action to prevent and respond to sexual harassment.
  • Recognise potential signs that a work colleague may be in an abusive relationship
  • Give examples of measures to recruit more women into their workforce.
  • Explain the gender pay gap.
  • Identify ways organisations can give women an equitable opportunity to progress and advance.
