New EBP program

Course/Activity Information

Overview

In this learning program, we will look closely at evidence-based practice (EBP), the position of the Association, key components of EBP, how thinking and definitions have changed over time, and how you can embed it within your practice.

EBP as described throughout this document refers to the integration of evidence from the best available external research evidence; the values, preferences and circumstances of service users; professional expertise; and the external practice context (Hoffmann et al., 2017; SPA, 2021).

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this learning program, participants should be able to:

  • Develop a practice question.
  • Locate evidence from each of the four sources - research evidence, professional expertise, information from the practice context and evidence from individual’s values and circumstances.
  • Evaluate collected evidence.
  • Integrate evidence from a range of sources to inform decision making.
  • Evaluate the outcome.

Who is this for?

This learning program has been designed to suit speech pathologists throughout their careers. It is an integral part of the Return to Practice program and a requirement of early career speech pathologists transitioning from Provisional to full CPSP status.

Members are encouraged to undertake the program at any time throughout their career.

*Note for Return to Practice participants

Please do not enrol in this course, the EBP component is embedded in the Return to Practice learning program. Please direct queries to your facilitator at pssupport@speechpathologyaustralia.org.au or call the Association's National Office on 1300 368 835.
