About this item

Unpack the IAHA Cultural Responsiveness Framework to understand what is required for change at a system level for cultural safety to be embedded into services.

Course/Activity Information

This course is brought to you by Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA). Please refer to the course factsheet for further details regarding the IAHA Cultural Responsiveness Training available in partnership with Speech Pathology Australia.

Unpacking the Framework, allows you to begin the process of Knowing, Being & Doing to create a culturally safe practice and dives deeper into the IAHA Culturally Responsive Framework. With 5 hours of content and resources available to you, there will be activities and self-reflection that you can do in your own time.

The Level 2 course will begin to unpack the IAHA Cultural Responsiveness Framework developed in 2015 and revised in 2019. This Framework is an evidence-based theory that allows you to understand what is required for change at a system level for cultural safety to be embedded into services. We begin to unpack the “Theory of Change” and introduce you to the “6 Key Capabilities” critical in building cultural responsiveness in a workplace.

This module will begin to unpack the politics of identity and diversity of culture both for the individual and that of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, which will lead us into the effects of the dominant culture around the globe. We continue with the differences in culture and communication and how this can hinder the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples creating barriers towards accessing services.

Successful completion of Level 1 is a prerequisite to Level 2. Both are required before you can attend the Level 3 - Putting It All Into Action workshop available directly through IAHA.

Following completion of Levels 1 and 2, Speech Pathology Australia strongly encourages all members to complete the Level 3 - Putting It All Into Action workshop which can be accessed directly through IAHA.
