About this item

Expand your bag of tricks - different cueing methods for eliciting consonants and vowels with children with speech sound disorder.

Course/Activity Information

This Clinical Bite will provide an overview of different methods for eliciting consonants and vowels that can be challenging for children with speech sound disorders, including types of auditory, phonetic, orthographic, shaping, contextual, gestural, pragmatic, metaphor and metaphonological cues.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • list categories of types of methods for eliciting Australian English vowels and consonants,
  • explain how to elicit later developing consonants using non-instrumental methods,
  • describe types of instrumental methods for eliciting /s/ and /r/,
  • adapt methods for eliciting speech sounds for children according to their age group: toddler, preschool, and school-age children.

Who would benefit from this course?

This Clinical Bite is suitable for speech pathologists who have knowledge of assessment and intervention approaches (phonological and motor) for children with speech sound disorders. Clinical experience with children with speech sound disorders is desired.

If you have attended a workshop by Elise Baker in previous years, this workshop will have a greater focus and delve into detail about methods for eliciting speech sounds in children who have a speech sound disorder.
