This Clinical Bite workshop focuses on best practice early intervention principles which overlap the models of occupational therapy and speech pathology interventions to meet the needs of individual children with disability or delay.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • describe collaborative team-based goal setting from a family-based perspective
  • identify similarities and differences in intervention techniques between different allied health disciplines
  • model and interpret therapeutic interventions in a collaborative approach
  • discuss expected and unexpected outcomes of collaborative working

Presenters

Alison Copley

Alison has worked as an occupational therapist since 1993, working across remote and metropolitan South Australia within a range of disability, assessment and child-based teams across her career.  She is now the Principal Practitioner at Early Start Australia – Hindmarsh team.  ESA Hindmarsh provide transdisciplinary services for people across the life with complex and severe disability.  Alison has spent much of her career supporting clients who live in complex social disadvantage and multigenerational disability.   Alison lives with her husband, her teenage daughters, a menagerie of animals and Lego builds.

Joanna Craig

Joanna is the Team Leader for Speech Pathology at Early Start Australia-Hindmarsh, also providing mentoring support to the speech pathology team based in ESA in SA.  She has worked for over 15 years as a speech pathologist in disability services, working in teams in the community across metropolitan Adelaide.  Joanna is highly skilled in the prescription of alternative communication systems and in supporting children to develop their intentions in sharing and communicating.  Jo has a busy life with 3 children, 2 dogs and a well-developed skill in labelling our office thanks to her Cricut machine.
