Mary Woodward, Senior Advisor of Justice and Mental Health talks with Dr Kim Turner about her career in youth and adult justice, and forensic mental health.

Learning objectives

Viewing this webinar will provide participants with insight into:

  • A speech pathologist’s work in a UK adult forensic mental health (high security) hospital, including common presentations of clients, how needs might be prioritised, assessed and treat, different service models, and multidisciplinary working
  • Developing a speech pathology service in a UK young offender institute, including becoming the first secure service in the UK to gain accreditation through the National Autistic Society
  • A speech pathologist’s work in a therapeutic community service for adults with intellectual disability who have offended
  • Consideration of professional development needs and opportunities for speech pathologists in the fields of justice and forensic mental health, and for speech pathologists to provide to multidisciplinary colleagues
  • A brief overview of Kim’s research into communication needs, and speech pathology practice, in the field of youth justice.
