This course was developed by Autism CRC and is hosted by Speech Pathology Australia for the benefit of members.

The National Framework for assessing children’s functional strengths and support needs in Australia supports professionals to better understand and respond to children’s strengths, participation, and support needs. Applicable across health, education, disability and community services. The Framework is evidence-based, culturally responsive and designed for real-world practice.

This self-paced On Demand package consists of a two-module series designed to build capability and confidence.

Module 1: Understanding the Framework
Understand the foundations of high-quality, strengths-based practice.

You will learn to:
• apply the six guiding principles
• use the ICF and F-words as a shared language
• reflect on and strengthen your practice.

Module 2: Applying the Framework
Put the Framework into practice across the three key areas of assessment, differentiation and reporting. Learn how best to build a holistic understanding of the child and family, prioritise support needs and communicate clearly and meaningfully.

You will learn to:
• integrate information across settings
• partner effectively with children and families
• deliver clear, useful recommendations
• apply safeguarding principles.

Who is it for?

Professionals working with children aged 0–12 years and their families, including those supporting children with developmental delay, neurodevelopmental conditions, acquired disability and other support needs.

Estimated course duration: Approximately three (3) hours to complete.
